Sorry for the lack in updates, just got back from my birthday trip to Tokyo with H and it was awesomeeeeee! I can't wait to get down to sorting out the photos and share about the trip! The highlight of our vacation was definitely the FOOD. Good food every single meal, our tummies were spoiled! Quality food makes me happyyyyyy :)))))
Anyway, I've been getting a lot of questions regarding my Kindle so here's a post to answer all your queries for those interested! :)
Firstly, you've to know there are many different types of Kindles in the market catered for different needs. You must know WHY you need a kindle in the first place. There's the Kindle Fire (which has apps, kinda like rival to the iPad), Kindle Keyboard (with a keyboard attached to the reader if you intend to do a lot of typing/add a lot of notes), Kindle Touch (touchscreen), Kindle Basic (with just a scrolling button), etc.
For me, I wanted an e-reader purely for reading so I narrowed it down to the Kindle Basic and Kindle Touch. Upon more research, I decided to get the Kindle Touch with no advertisements because everything is touchscreen nowadays and I don't think I can stand typing using the scrolling button on the basic - it's so slow and frustrating!
This is my Kindle Touch switched off / screensaver mode
It took me quite a while to figure out how to download books, convert books, organise my books into folders, etc. I must say, Google really helped me quite a bit!
Converting your e-books to .mobi
The Kindle Touch supports a lot of formats but some fonts appear too small ('cause of the different formats) so you've to zoom in at every page before you can start reading and that's just plain troublesome. So, convert your e-books!
I'm currently using Calibre to convert all the (free) books I download from .epub to .mobi which is one of the formats that Kindle supports.
This is what I mean:
Downloading books
You can download books from Amazon or any websites that offer free e-books on the www. My friend recommended me Tuebl and I've never purchased a book till date. 'Nuff said.
Why Kindle?
Of course, you don't necessarily have to read from a Kindle, an iPhone or iPad works the same but a Kindle is light, in the perfect size and you don't feel tired holding it in one hand. It fits easily into my handbags and there's no glaring backlight like the iPad so your eyes don't feel tired as easily. The Kindle Touch is exactly like a normal hardcover book which you can't read in the dark. And did I mention that the Kindle Touch can hold up to 3500 books? No more dusty bookshelves! ;)
