On becoming Mrs

Saturday, 4 October 2014

So H and I got hitched exactly a week ago after one and half year of engagement! Life goes on as per usual after the wedding probably because our house is not ready yet so there isn't any big changes. And now, we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our new home, that's gonna be our next big project hehe :D

We jetted off to Boracay 2 days after the wedding as we wanted to go somewhere beautiful to just relax and do nothing after not having slept/eaten well the couple of weeks before the big day. It was fun while it lasted and we wish our mini (honey)moon never had to end.

Back to the daily grind immediately after touchdown (I had a filming in the airport upon arrival) but thank god for the long weekend!!

Our future is looking exciting and I cannot wait to spend it together.

What I am looking forward to are:
1) More quality time spent exploring new (healthy and wholesome) recipes in the kitchen
2) A meaningful learning journey about ourselves, each other and the world as we grow older and stronger as a couple
3) Finding joy and retaining that spark in every mundane duty we have to fulfill

Cheers to creating even more beautiful and happy memories, H!

I love you. Xx

SUNDAYS
Inspired by one of my favourite couples - Olivia Palermo and Johannes Huebl, H and I started documenting our Sundays by having a shot taken together at wherever we may be or give you an idea of what we were doing that Sunday. When we first started, I cropped H's face or asked him to look away so his eyes can't be seen. I liked that idea. I still do but H isn't exactly very tall so I will have to bend low deliberately to make sure his eyes cannot be seen haha. I hope you guys enjoy these pictures as much as we look forward to snapping them.

My boyfriend/fiancé the stalker

Wednesday, 25 September 2013

4 Januarys ago, I received a text from H asking, "Why didn't you reply my messages for the past year?"

Yes, it wasn't a love at first sight affair for the both of us.

Or rather, for me.

Like many other couples, H and I first knew about each other's existence when we were in school (Singapore Polytechnic). (Note: existence. We were never friends.) For the entire 3 years in school, we were never in the same class nor did academic studies allow us to cross paths. We were taking the same course (Business Administration) but we were in different batches (he's in A and I'm in B) so we did not even attend lectures in the same hall.

But of course I noticed him around school. New school, new environment, my new friends and I were checking out guys from day 1 of orientation to food court 6 to corridors and during lectures. H was spotted by one of my friends whose friend told her that he's from China. That's when I first noticed him. Nope, he was not my eye candy. Haha! When I was 17, I was into guys with slits as eyes and H's eyes are too big, he didn't fit my criteria hahahaha!

One of H's friends (S) was interested in my friend (E) then. So one day, they walked past my group of girlfriends and I when we were standing outside the lecture hall. Apparently the conversation between S and H went something like this:

S: That's the E I'm telling you about.
H: She's not my type, the skinny one is.
S: Huh but she's a Malay right?
H: Malay your head.

So H said he knew then that the tanned, scrawny and ugly girl was going to be his wife one day (dunno true or not cause he always feeds me with gibberish). And he always praises himself for being farsighted for spotting a potential "swan".

But he very thick-skinned la. He asked S to ask E about me and added me on Friendster (please don't ask me what's Friendster. I know I'm ancient don't remind me) and MSN. BUT I was newly attached then to my ex-boyfriend so I thought he will give up and all but NOOOOOOO he sent me messages on Friendster every now and then (which I duly ignored. I had a boyfriend, hello???). Once he sent me a message asking my ex-boyfriend and I to go down to XXX place to support him for a singing competition. Like, ?????????

I ignored that message too.

I'm relieved I didn't go because after we got together, I realised singing is not one of H's strongest point.

Now you must be thinking I'm a very rude person, ignoring all his friendly messages. But one thing you must know about me is - I'm a very faithful partner and a logical person who doesn't enjoy doing things to lead another male on when I'm in a committed relationship. Additionally, we were Never friends and we Never hanged out before so is he weird or what?!

But I do entertain him once in a bored while on MSN chatting over meaningless topics.

He still talked to me when he had a girlfriend...
...and then they broke up.
...I was still in my relationship...
and finally I broke up with my ex-boyfriend.

H got wind of that very quickly and he acted swiftly because the next thing I know, he was asking me out on MSN.

He picked me up from my home one night and we went to Swensen's at Holland V for ice-cream. And then we went out a second time which probably wasn't that memorable because I can't recall anything about it hahaha! (Okay, I asked H and he said we went to Sushi Tei at Holland V. I'm sure you can tell by now how into me he was/is. *raises eyebrow*)

And that was it.

We never went out again.
Neither did we talk again after the second date.

I know that's not what you were expecting.

I guess I just wasn't THAT interested at that point in time what with me trying to mend a broken heart and having the option to date openly.

H probably did try to talk to me after the second date but I guess he wasn't buzzing as loudly as the other bees around me.

...And so came the text message slightly more than a year later in January 2010 - "Why didn't you reply my messages for the past year?"

He requested to meet for dinner in SIM before our classes start (it was his last semester in UOL and my first in RMIT). I said okay, but stood him up at the last minute because I wasn't feeling well that day, overslept, and I was already late for class.

Where did this man get his perseverance from, I had no idea then. And I must say he really does handle rejections and ignorance very well.

Because after I stood him up for dinner, he initiated to send me home after class that night (SIM is in the West, I stay North and he stays South. Crazy is the only word to describe him because he has to travel a huge circle every school night before reaching home)...

...and then for the many nights after... Till I graduated.

After one long grandmother story and six years after he first laid eyes on me, we are finally a couple! *throws confetti*

I know you guys are more happy for him than for me after reading this, as were all his friends after they heard the news because...

We all have to learn something from each story told, as that's what stories are meant for, no? So kids, what did you learn from this story?

Hard work and perseverance DO pay off.

My sight, taste, touch, as well as arms and legs.

Two weekends ago,
H and I were invited for an engagement shoot with Smittenpixels Photography!
We were BEYOND excited as this was going to be our first professional photoshoot!
We had no idea if were going to have any chemistry during the shoot
or were we going to look natural
or how were we going to pose.

All I knew was I wanted something like the end product of Jose Villa's work.
He's a very talented photographer specialising in weddings and engagement photoshoots.
He rarely uses props, mainly focusing on the couple with simple and beautiful backdrops.
I'm a HUGE fan of his works.

I conveyed all of that to Fiona (the brainchild behind Smittenpixels!)
and also told her that we wanted nothing cutesy hahahaha!
And the end result?

THE PICTURES TURNED OUT BETTER THAN WE EXPECTED!

We shot at two locations and this was at the first!

Hahaha the sun was too glaring!

H said he can win 最佳男配角
because he's in the background and slightly blurred hahahaha idiot

After this we moved on to our next location to catch the sunset!
TOO MANY favourites from this set of photos
it's impossible to choose just ONE that I adore.
Same goes for H.
All of them look so good, we love too many! ;p

When we were thinking of our next pose, H suggested "Let's dance",
and these set of pictures ended up becoming one of my favourites :')

And the entire time I was laughing stupidly like this...
Because H couldn't stop making me laugh!!
Kinda spoiled the vibe we were going for, you think?

So...which one do you like best???

It was a very fun and relaxed shoot for H and I!
Fiona has such an easygoing personality, we clicked instantly!
She made us feel very comfortable during the shoot and if you're an amateur in poses (like us),
fret not as Fiona has lots of ideas (just look at us hahaha)!
She gave us directions but left H and I to talk among ourselves
so she can capture our most natural reactions.
That is very important as we didn't want those "look ahead and look far far" photos haha!

Lastly, look at our DVD!
H and I were pleasantly surprised when we saw it hehe ;)

MY SURPRISE PROPOSAL!

Thursday, 18 April 2013

(H commanded me to)

H and my anniversary was on the 1st of April and I actually wanted to write about that first but since The Proposal happened, that's more exciting so I'll blog about it first haha!

I cannot believe I was kept in the dark for so long by my closest friends and H. To be honest, I actually hate surprises and being the last to know.  :(

So I told H no more surprises and he said no.  >:(

ANYWAY, even though it was a surprise, I think god still wanted me to look good! My hair was PERFECT that day. I've never blown it soooo neat before and I was in awe of my voluminous hair. Plus H was smart, he asked my girlfriends to bring me to a nice restaurant so I'll definitely wear a new pretty dress for the occasion hahaha! I told him I'll kill him if I ever look ugly during the proposal. AND on that day, I actually wore this pair of dangling Chanel earrings H got me for Xmas 2010 (his first gift from Chanel for me!). I haven't worn it in AGES, almost forgotten about it and somehow, I decided to wear it that day because I thought it'll look good with my white dress, and it did! Quite amazing how The One Above was trying to convey a message to me and wanted me to look my best ya? ;)

So here was the plan...

Jasmine texted the the girls and me a few weeks before the 5th April suggesting dinner at Hide Yamamoto located at MBS 'cause her boyfriend has $500 MBS dining vouchers expiring soon. Her boyfriend is some VIP at MBS and he always has these kinda free meals and stays in the hotel so of course I believed her. After dinner, we would go to the hotel room as usual and sit around. Nothing wrong with the plan and it was very normal so I didn't find anything amiss at all, not through dinner and not even when she opened the door and revealed this:

(H and friends waited for so long, some of the helium balloons were no longer floating so they actually had to tape it to the ceiling hahahaha and in the proposal video, Debra tried pulling a balloon which was taped HAHAHA SUPER FUNNY!!)

I even asked Jasmine, "Huh. You mean Colin did this for you?". When she answered "No." and asked me to walk ahead first, I REMAINED NAIVE AND GULLIBLE till I saw one of H's friend sprinting across the room to the curtains (his duty) before it finally dawned on me...............................

Because I kept telling H he'll never be able to have a surprise proposal for me which made him even more adamant about proving me wrong.

Yup, we have a very competitive relationship hahahahaha.

(Screenshots from the video)

It was kinda weird because I didn't expect it and there was H, kneeling in front of me asking for my hand in marriage and he was so serious and nervous and I just felt like laughing (hahahaha don't judge) because he's rarely like that with me and we are always talking rubbish. The moment right after he popped the important question... "Will you marry me?"

.... I STARTED LAUGHING.

I'm really sorry for being so anti-climax but I couldn't help it!!!!

There wasn't anything funny about what he said or his sincerity, I just didn't know how to handle myself.

After laughing, there was an awkward silence of me staring at the ring, H staring at me, everyone in the room waiting for my answer and H whispered a little too loudly,

"It's one carat leh."
"Really meh. Are you sure? It doesn't look like it's one carat."
"It's one carat, I show you the cert later."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA THAT'S MORE LIKE US - ME ALWAYS QUESTIONING HIM AND HIM ALWAYS TRYING TO PROVE TO ME HAHAHAHAHHAHA!!

In the end, I said,

"Yes la, yes la."

Not very romantic, I know.
But I don't usually have huge reactions nor am I overly emotional, and I'm a very calm person.
Hahaha

Our mini photoshoot hahaha

A view of the Suite H booked after everyone left.

My super huge and heavy bouquet of roses!
Everyone went, "Whoa 100 roses ah!" and I was like, "No la, 99 roses."
And I was right!
I do know my boyfriend very well ;) Haha.

Okay now, let me show off my ring a little.

Soooooo prettyyyyyyyy!
H got me exactly what I wanted - simple, classic, and at least one carat hahaha :')
But let's not talk about the price.
Even I feel superrrrr heart pain.
But he said I'm worth it. :''''')

To be honest, it wasn't a touching proposal but it was definitely heartwarming
to see how H (and our friends) put in so much effort for just a few minutes.
While my girls and I were feasting (which btw, H paid for, there was no vouchers),
H and his friends + Bibi (my best friend in SQ.
She left too quickly and we didn't manage to take a picture!)
came over right after work without dinner to prepare everything :')
Definitely keepers for life, these people.

(Bianca and H's friends during the preparation. Haha they took a lot of videos before The Proposal talking about the plan, each one's duty and H rehearsing hahaha!)

And so now,
I'm engaged to the sweetest man alive :))))))))))
I cannot wait for our lives together to begin,
and I'm sooooo happy we'll be spending forever as one.

Thank you for feeling happy for us, everyone!
