H's Birthday Surprise

Tuesday, 23 December 2014

Before we left for our honeymoon, I thought I'll surprise H with a dinner with our friends. I'm not really one who can hide things from H so imagine how hard I tried to contain everytime I want to mention something about the dinner!

3 days before the dinner, I told H, "Oh, maybe we can go to Sabio by the Sea for dinner after my flea on Saturday. I kinda miss the caramel lava cake."

Then he got all excited and said sure, cause he misses the cake and all the food there. And then I made the "reservation" for two.

-

Meiting is loud by nature and I was a little worried that she wouldn't be able to keep it in or that someone will spill in the group chats. That Saturday, H came to join Meiting and me at the flea for an hour and in the first 5 minutes, I think Meiting mentioned that she's going to have family dinner that evening about 3 times. In my mind, I was like, "Omg she doesn't have to emphasise so much on that hahaha".

But anyway, I was overthinking lah because H is obviously CLUELESS. And I mean a whole new level of CLUELESS.

First
We were approaching the carpark when Jasmine and Eunice just parked. I was like, "OMG THEY ARE GOING TO WALK TO THE ELEVATOR AND OUR CAR IS GONNA PASS BY THEM".

And I was right.

We entered the carpark and they were waiting for the elevator IN FULL VIEW FROM THE CAR. I willed H not to notice them and continued staring at my phone while averting my eyes right and up right and up... I went "PHEW" in my head after he made a right turn.

Second
Tricia and John were not at the restaurant yet and their car was waiting outside the carpark. If they entered, I'm 100% positive H will notice because he KNOWS their car. Thankfully they told me they paid $20 for valet. Eh, there's always a price to pay for being late ya. Hahaha

Third
I went to the toilet to delay time while Tricia and John were walking to Sabio. When I got out, H looked at me excitedly with his eyes opened huge and said, "GUESS WHAT?"

In my mind: No he didn't see John and Tricia walking past please please please we are so close!!

He didn't.

HE SAW KEN COMING OUT OF THE TOILET, FACE-TO-FACE, DIRECT EYE CONTACT.

Mind: He must've have guessed it argh

"Ken told me he's here for dinner and he asked me to pretend as though I didn't see him! Do you think he's gonna propose to Eve tonight?! He said there's gonna be a surprise!"

Mind: Shit you Ken, why did you go to the toilet instead of staying in your seat???!!??

H continued, "He went this way as well, in a white/black striped shirt let's see if we can spot them. What if they are eating at Sabio too?"

I entertained him with vague replies something along the line of "No lah, I don't think he'll propose in public blahblahblah".

"Then what do you think is the surprise he's talking about?". H probed while darting his head left and right trying to spot a Ken in striped shirt.

"I don't know. I don't really care.", I replied nonchalantly.

"Hi, reservation under Jessica Tham, please.", I said to the lady, as we arrived at Sabio.

"The table right at the end.", the server gestured without showing us to our seats.

Mind: Why didn't the server follow normal procedure and show us to our table?? H is gonna find out, he will be telling me any second now...

Everyone: "SURPRISE!!!"

Sugarcane Buddies + Flea

Wednesday, 27 August 2014

H and I have been hanging out with this group of friends frequently on weekends and we call ourselves the Sugarcane Buddies (got story behind the name hahaha) / Saturday Buddies.

It's interesting how social media brought us together. Take for example, Eve and I knew each other way back in 2009 when we did a flight to Paris together and basically hanged out throughout the entire flight.

(I apologise for these bad quality pictures I saved from Facebook.)

We did a lot of fun and stupid things with the rest of the crew like having a picnic under the slight drizzle by the Eiffel Tower and taking crazy photos in the middle of the road with my $8 umbrella from Taipei hahaha.

After 5 years, this cheeky (now) woman still poses the same and forces her boyfriend to do it too hahaha!

Anyway, we did not really keep in contact after the flight though her number is always saved in my phone but we are still "close" because of Facebook and Instagram. You know what I mean?

Actually, I also kinda got to know Meiting through SQ and the first time we "met" was also in Paris! (I really don't want to say this but I miss Paris!! So excited I am finally heading back to the city of love this December with H!!) I think I followed her on Instagram because someone (a crew probably?) told me she was also flying so I went to check out her profile and thought, "Wah this girl quite pretty, okay I'll follow her". So we knew of each other's existence...and then one day when I was leaving Paris, she was checking in and a common friend of ours wanted to introduce us but I was shy lah! So we officially said "Hi" in person for the first time at a Skin Inc event last year!

With Tricia, there isn't much of a story because *ahem* her height does not qualify for SQ (but everything else about her is perfect) so it was very straightforward - I "knew" her through Instagram and Eve brought us from reel to real!

I know I've only been talking about us girls but you know what? Our boyfriends get along just as well! Yay to new friendships fostered! We even have a hashtag on Instagram - #whenboysvsgirls. Pictures there are just for laughs okay hahaha.

In other news, I need to clear my house for the wedding (why is the mess never-ending omg) sooooo I'll be at the Lucky Plaza flea hosted by ForFleaSake with Meiting this coming Saturday from 1-7pm (or while stocks last)!

Date: 30 August 2014, Saturday
Time: 1pm to 7pm
Venue: Lucky Plaza level 6
Prices: $10 and below

Please bring your own bags and the only mode of payment is by cash!

See you then!! :)

Charlott's (without the 'e') Wedding

Sunday, 2 March 2014

Yesterday was the 1st of March which translates to 1.3.14 so I assumed every hotel's ballroom and restaurants were booked for weddings because my Instagram and Facebook feeds were flooding with friends attending friends' weddings. I also attended a wedding luncheon!

Charlott and Andrew's cosy wedding was held at Flutes at National Museum of Singapore and the restaurant was so pretty! I have always loved those western style table set-up but with H being a Chinese, it's not really possible for us to serve a 4-course meal without all the Chinese delicacies. Another plus point for the western style wedding is the fact that there are lesser courses so guests can actually interact and take their time to finish each course without the server dumping the next course on the lazy Susan already. I saw Charlott hopping from table to table entertaining/checking on her guests and taking pictures after she finished each course and it was just so sweet! During a Chinese banquet, you are considered lucky if you even get a sentence or two with the married couple when they go round the ballroom for photo-taking.

I arrived a little late so everyone already started with their first course - Cream of Mushroom with Truffle Oil. Forgot to take a picture but it was pretty yums!

What's on the menu...I love all the choices!

!!!!
Scallops are my FAVOURITE and this dish didn't disappoint.
In fact, it was probably the best course!

I had the sea bass for main and it was wayyyy overcooked.
Nobody liked it, not even the bride herself.
The dessert was okay but not memorable.
But overall, I would say the food was not too bad!

Love this candid photo :)

Charlott and I were in the same class and CCA for 4 years in secondary school
and I am honestly so, so, so happy and a little emotional that she's found her "The One"
who will be by her side for the rest of her life. :''')

We were silly young geeks on the first day of school and Charlott was spotting bangs above eyebrows
with a mid-ponytail + glasses and skirt to her knee for at least a good 1-2 years.
Her skirt went reallyyyy short after a few months if I remember right hahaha.
And she started wearing contact lenses in secondary 3 to reveal her pretty looks!
Oh yes, we also went through lots of restrictions and curfews imposed on her, with her.
Congrats on your freedom and I am so glad we are still friends! :)

The man beside me is Charlott's dad who doesn't look like he has aged a day
since the last time I saw him when I was still *ahem* below 20.
I need to know his secret.

Ending this post with my #ootd details.
I love wearing my classic pieces for daytime weddings.

Feast And Be Merry!

Tuesday, 16 July 2013

It was a day of feasting some three Sundays ago with two groups of friends and it was crazy.
Age is catching up, we can't be eating like this so often anymore!

Had brunch with my uni course mates at House @ Dempsey and the food was mediocre.
The eggs benedict was below standard though.
Service was slow and we had to ask a couple of times to be served water.
Definitely not worth the price we paid.
BUT
I thought the truffle fries were one of the best I ever had!
Very generous toss of truffle oil.
Thankfully the company more than made up for the substandard food.

The biscuits were bland and hard...a huge letdown.

With my funny friends hahaha

After brunch, H and I went to his place to get some stuff
and since we had some time to waste before dinner,
we eh, went to Henderson Waves to take my outfit picture hahahahaha.
I know right, my boyfriend is as spontaneous as I am haha!

Sau came back to SG for the weekend and the ten of us met for crabs at Mellben Seafood!!
Mellben Seafood at AMK Ave 3 is my FAVOURITE place for crabs!

Salted egg york pork ribs!

Chilli crab

Five crabs for us!!!
MUST, MUST, MUST order the crab beehoon and butter crab!!!!!!
*slurpssssss!*

We headed to Dempsey's Ben & Jerry's for ice-cream,
then to Red Dot for drinks and more chit-chat!

Thanks for the ice-cream treat, Sau! <3

We have covered food, so now it's time for fashion and clothes!

Juan's Proposal!

Friday, 14 June 2013

One of my Uni course mates got engaged last month! I was bursting with excitement when I read the text one of my friends sent after I touched down from flight. I LOVE surprising people! It's something so happy, exciting and precious :) We were all really, really happy for Juan 'cause we knew it's something she wants soooo much hahaha!

The Plan:
Alex (The boyfriend) "booked" a movie at 5.30pm and he will meet Juan under her block at 5pm. Of course he wouldn't be there... A Volkswagon Kombi will pick Juan up and send her to NYP, where they schooled and met, and where we would all be. The Kombi was decorated with fairy lights and pictures of them were hanged in the van. Juan would watch a video done by Alex (which was funny, sweet and touching at the same time!!! Even I almost teared watching it).

The crew preparing for The Moment
I'm sure you all can guess it's a proposal under the Eiffel Tower ;)

Alex, the boyfriend, with balloons for all of us!

I don't know why was everyone dressed up.
Especially Chris.
We laughed when we saw him hahahaha

Juan was arriving and he was feeling superrrrrrr nervous hahaha

We were totally making use of all the props...
behaving as if it was our 2nd proposal hahahaha!

The following shots are a series of my favourite pictures of Juan
because I love natural reactions of people.

Yup, there was even a guitarist and singer!

The super cute Kombi!

So happy for the both of you!

LUCKY GIRL!

This married couple ah...tsk tsk
This engaged couple also....tsk tskkkk hahaha

Stay blissful and forever in love, Alex and Juan! :)

And a note:
Dear boyfriends of my girl friends,
please involve me if there's a surprise proposal planned okay!!!
